Part I Crime
Information

The following information reflects only crimes that are
categorized as Part I Crimes by the FBI’s Uniform Crime Report. By the FBI’s
definition, Part I Crimes include homicide, rape, robbery, aggravated assault,
burglary, larceny, motor vehicle theft, and arson. The numbers reported here
reflect the official Part I Crime numbers reported to the FBI and exclude cases
that have been unfounded.
The following table shows the frequency and types of Part I
Crime for 2000-2008 in Tempe. Overall there was a 10.1% decrease in Part I
Crimes from 2007 to 2008. Comparisons of specific Part I Crimes across 2007 and
2008 indicated there was a 40.0% decrease in homicide, a 46.0% decrease in
rape, a 2.1% decrease in robbery, a 3.9% decrease in aggravated assault, a
17.2% decrease in burglary, a 4.7% decrease in larceny, a 30.3% decrease in motor
vehicle theft, and a 21.7% decrease in arson.
