Tempe's
Promise to Youth -
In 1997, America's Promise to Youth convened in
Philadelphia under the direction of General Colin Powell. The goal of the
summit was to mobilize citizens and organizations to ensure that all of our
children have access to five fundamental resources:
Mentor
Protect
Teach
Nurture
Serve
Tempe citizens, Tempe Community Council, and the City of Tempe organized Tempe's
Promise, and we need people and organizations to get involved in the community
to help our children learn and grow. Tempe's Promise to Youth mission is
to mobilize Tempe citizens; and coordinate, celebrate and expand existing
organizations within the Tempe/Kyrene community to ensure all of our youth have
access to the five fundamental resources. Individuals and organizations
can make a difference by pledging their time and resources towards helping our
youth - we call these people "commitment makers." For more
general information visit the
America's
Promise Web Site. For meeting times, contact TCC at 480.858.2300.

characteristics of Maricopa County's elderly population, identifying and
evaluating their needs, and turning that captured information into a system of
service delivery. The committee meets monthly.
MAG
Human Services Committee

committee prepares an annual Human Services Plan for Maricopa County, solicits
comments and develops recommendations on the distribution of federal Social
Services Block Grant funds, analyzes issues and identifies possible solutions.
Agency Review -
One of Tempe Community Council's
primary functions is serving as the Human Services Commission for the
City of Tempe. TCC staffs a 45 member agency review volunteer
panel, made up of community representatives, that annually reviews grant
applications from non-profit organizations. Types of funding
include: City of Tempe General Revenue Funds, Community Development
Block Grant (CDBG) Funds, Tempe's Help to Others
Funds and Seized Asset Community Action (SACA)
Funds. Recommendations are forwarded to the Mayor and City Council
for final approval.
Funded agencies are monitored by TCC throughout the
year.
