The Tempe Youth Employment Program provides a FREE
employee-referral service to local citizens and businesses.
Employees are local youth that have attended free educational workshops and receive job referrals based on
Employer requests.
Who are the Youth?
All youth are between the ages of 13 and 21 and reside or attend school in Tempe, Arizona. They must complete an application-registration, obtain parental consent (youth under 18) and participate in a two-hour Job Seeking Skills Workshop. (Please note that the majority of youth registered with the program are between the ages of 13 and 18-some older students do take advantage of the program as
well).
What jobs are listed with the program?
A wide variety of job orders including full-time, part-time, temporary, and one-time positions are listed in the job bank. The type of work can vary from odd jobs at private residence to traditional job settings in retail, restaurant, clerical or warehouse establishments, to list a few. (The Program does not accept door-to-door jobs, and reserves the right to refuse job order's that may pose a dangerous risk to the youth
or infringes upon current employment laws).
Where are job-orders posted?
Job orders will not be posted publicly. Youth receive job referrals either in-person or over the phone directly from a youth employment counselor. This helps to ensure that applicants meet employers' requirements, and does not expose home addresses and private phone numbers to the general public.
Are background checks performed on the youth?
No. The program simply does not have the capability. Youth Employment Counselors conduct personal interviews with students immediately following the Job Seeking Skills Workshop. The program goal is to provide leads to all students who register with the program, and allow the employer to choose the best candidate for the available position. However, the employer's are not obligated to hire program-referred applicants. Efforts are made to refer several applicants to each position. Recommendations are that the employer interview and check references on all applicants.
